Turbulence = Opportunity
The Idea: Turbulence
I wrote about VUCA a while back and mentioned that VUCA is a constant companion to any business. The term originated from the US military and referred to the environment during the Cold War.
For our purposes, turbulence can be defined as an economic environment where there is disruption, mixed economic signals, and declining or lacking consumer confidence.
You might also find that it helps to define “turbulent” in the context of your own organization.
Dave’s Take:
I’m fond of the idea that a period of turbulence can also be a point of opportunity.
Why?
Because when things are being shuffled about, this provides the chance for you to re-position yourself, create new value, or focus on new targets.
Is it a guarantee of success?
No.
You can turn turbulence into opportunity using some of these ideas:
What will be the same?
What will be different?
Are there trends that are being uncovered?
Are there trends that are becoming more entrenched?
What does change mean for your industry?
