The Questions That Drive Me To Think...
Hi-
I just started reading The Big Con a book on the global consulting industry.
The authors start the book by sharing that the book started as a series of questions.
This made me think about the series of questions that drive much of my thinking and work in strategy, branding, and marketing.
I wanted to share some of those questions with you this morning in hopes you might share some of the questions or ideas that drive your work.
What role does strategy play now?
What role should strategy play in the world?
Are brands still relevant?
Why has the role of strategy been de-emphasized?
Why has so much marketing, especially in America, become so sh*t?
Does anything truly need to be a commodity?
How do you use strategy to create a better society?
Why are our public institutions so bad at setting strategy for our societies?
Why are businesses so willing to throw out their brand equity? Brand codes?
Why has discounting become the go-to pricing strategy for most marketers?
How did the sales function steal all of marketing’s thunder?
Why are marketers and businesses so reluctant to talk to their customers?
I have more, but these are the ones that are driving my thinking right now.
What questions drive your thinking?
Let me know what question you come back to over and over again.
How does the question make you feel? How are you dealing with it?
I’m going to take the best ones and work them into an upcoming edition of the newsletter and ‘The Business of Fun’ podcast.
Do you have a colleague that talks to you about a question that drives them up the wall? Or, should rethink the questions driving their thinking?
Dave
P.S. I had Caspian Turner on the podcast recently to teach me about accessibility including how so many websites can make people with ADHD stressed.
