🗺️ 🗓️ Strategy: More Than a Plan!
Strategy is about focus!
The Big Idea: People use the word, “strategy”, out of context all the time.
Strategy is really about a few things:
Focus
Choice
Relative differentiation
Strategy is not:
Planning
Tactics
Goals
You need to know: Strategy is about five decisions:
Where are you going? (Your ambition)
What part of the market will you compete in?
Why will someone pick you over another option?
What resources do you need?
What actions will you take now?
You’ll know it when you see it: Strategy without execution is procrastination: planning.
A good strategy can fit on a sheet of paper.
Here is the strategy for D Day:
In my experience, the best strategies talk about one big ambition. There are usually one, two, or, at most, three things that people are focusing on to move towards that ambition.
What about business segments?
The ambition should flow down to each level. Each level should do the same exercise.
The hardest decision: Figuring out: What Will Success Look Like?
The Quote:
“People who know what they are talking about don’t need PowerPoint.”
— Steve Jobs
Let me know what you think of the new format. Each week, I’m going to take a topic that I have been thinking about or hearing about. Then, I’ll address it as I do in my own special way.
If you have a topic you want to hear about, drop me a note.
Also, keep an eye out because I’m going to do some new meet-ups, courses, and webinars in the next few weeks.
If you dig this: share it!
