Change! Reinvention! And, a FREE offer from Me!
Hey!
Sorry that I missed you last week, I was dealing with something that was ridiculous in nature right as I sat down to write the note.
So, I apologize.
Because one of the key things folks mention to me is my consistency.
Anyway, that is out of the way, I’ve been doing some work on Brand Dave the last few months including getting my website entirely rebuilt. It turned out great and the young woman that does my web development is a genius with this stuff.
I also finally got the @Dave_Wakeman Twitter handle.
As we can start to think about what the future might look like after the pandemic, this kind of strategy is key to our success.
Why do I say that?
I have three reasons, actually:
Adding value is a constant necessity in the world today
Reinvention is something we should all work towards as well
The environment we live in has changed, demanding different things from all of us.
How can y’all apply this?
Let’s look.
First, the environment we exist in…duh! We’ve been living with a pandemic for 18 months. I heard it described as being the middle age of the pandemic recently and I thought that was pretty funny and a little unsettling because in too many places we’ve decided to go completely YOLO about the pandemic.
I get the inclination too.
I’m champing at the bit to be done with this stuff and get back to London, Paris, and Sydney…that’s just me. You can pick your own cities.
But we’d be committing malpractice if we didn’t recognize that the environment was much different than what it was when the pandemic started.
This realization is going to require us to think about our businesses, our lives, and the things that matter to us differently.
Duh!
Second, adding new value was important before the pandemic.
This is a favorite topic of mine and I like to point people to a podcast conversation I had with Eventellect Co-Founder, Patrick Ryan, about two years ago now where we talked about the importance of always looking for new ways to add value and rethink our businesses.
While it seems like such a simple idea, the question we all need to ponder right now is how is our value proposition going to change?
And, due to this change, how will this make our actions different?
Again, simple stuff, but have you really sat down and thought through this?
Finally, the concept of reinvention.
To beat a drum here, when I was in Sydney giving the opening keynote at the Ticketing Professionals Australia Conference in 2019, my topic was about change and the challenges of change.
What a timely topic!?
Because the first I heard of the coronavirus was in the Melbourne airport while I was WhatsApp messaging with my friends, Andrew and Simon, about Pochettino getting the ax at Spurs to be replaced by Jose.
The key ideas that were offered up that morning were:
Change is constant.
You can’t avoid change.
You have two choices: embrace it and manage the process or allow it to wash over you with little input from you like an ostrich.
In the current situation, this means more than it did, even then, because things will be different now and the same skills, ideas, and actions that led to success before the pandemic aren’t going to be as useful going forward.
Or, consider this, they may even be harmful.
For what it is worth, as we have a chance to start doing a few more “normal” things again, I’ve created some new offerings that I’ll begin rolling out over the next few weeks so that people have new and more interesting ways to work with me, learn from me, and gain value from our relationship.
As a way to launch one new offering, email coaching. I’m going to offer all the subscribers to this newsletter, 30 days of email coaching. All you have to do is reply to this email and you’ll get 30 days of email coaching with me, for free.
We pick some challenge or situation you are dealing with, set some goals and objectives, and get going.
I’ll push you to take action and, hopefully, you’ll be able to use those actions to push yourself in a new direction.
Let me know!
Dave
