Hi!
On Wednesday, I did my first “First Wednesdays with Dave”.
We discussed strategy and I shared a few things that I think will be helpful.
I’ve scheduled the next one for Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024 at 1 PM Eastern. We are going to talk about getting a strong start to the new year.
Another thing I brought up during the session was that I was doing some research and found out that over 70% of American marketers have no formal training in marketing.
You wonder why the marketing department is considered the folks that are fun at happy hour!
And, you wonder why people say that American marketing is off the boil.
With that idea in mind and building off of my piece from a few weeks back, I laid out a content calendar for next year that will loosely follow marketing in my approach to the topic.
Let me share the outline:
Branding: I’ll lay the foundation just like I did when I taught my brand management class at the Kelley On Location event.
Customer Focus: You have to know the customer.
Market Research: DATA is reactive. Research is proactive.
Segmentation: The map.
Targeting: Who is your customer?
Positioning: Why you?
Strategy: What does success look like?
Product: How is your offering packaged?
Price: Marketing’s MVP moment.
Place: Distribution.
Promotion: Communication.
Review & Next Steps
I definitely want to include you in this.
So what questions do you have about marketing, branding, and strategy?
Since we are hitting the end of the year and the holidays line up where you shouldn’t be checking your email that much on a Sunday anyway:
December 17th: I’ll share some ideas about strategy and planning for 2024 from my “First Wednesday”.
December 24th: I’ll have some fun holiday message since I’m good like that.
December 31st: I’ll preview the Alabama game on New Year’s Day…just for you.
Thank you for reading.
You find this valuable.
Do you know someone else that you think might want some lessons on branding and strategy?
Why don’t you share this email with one person?
Dave
P.S. A new fun thing:
I aggregate some articles, my media appearances, and other interesting tidbits on LinkedIn. I wanted to test it out and the list has grown rapidly. Why don’t you join us?
